George L. Nattin 1961- 1973
George Nattin, Sr. served as the Chief of Police for Bossier City for three years before he was elected mayor in 1961. During his time in office Nattin was quite instrumental in bringing what is now known as Northwestern State University to the area. Nattin also ardently lobbied for the area to become the site of a new branch of the Louisiana State University system. In addition, he was largely responsible for the establishment of the Bossier General Hospital in 1966.
His major projects were significant expansions of the fire department, city jail, police department and sewage system. He funded much of the expansion by implementing a 1¢ city sales tax, making Bossier the first city to have a city sales tax in North Louisiana.
George Nattin, Sr. died in April 2002.
