Jake W. Cameron 1957-1961

Jake Cameron, originally from Homer, LA was a teacher and coach in both Claiborne and Bossier Parishes. During his four years as mayor, he reduced city taxes, completed construction plans of the Bossier City water plant, and organized the city’s first police detective department.

He served with the US Coast Guard during the Second World War After the war, he served as Chief Deputy Tax Assessor of Bossier Parish.

During his years in the Mayor’s office, Mayor Cameron prided himself on his open door policy and called himself the “average man’s friend.”

After his term in office, Cameron served on the Bossier Parish School Board. Jake Cameron died 10 September 1999.
