The Bossier City Police Department is now accepting applications for its 2017 reserve police officer academy class.
Reserve police officers are members of the community who are trained as certified law enforcement officers in accordance with state requirements and supplement regular full-time Bossier City police officers in a variety of duties. Reserve police officers serve on a volunteer basis and possess the same law enforcement authority as full-time officers while on-duty.
Members of the BCPD Reserve Police Unit perform multiple services including patrol, security and traffic control at special events and assisting the patrol division during emergency situations that require additional law enforcement personnel. Reserve police officers are also involved such activities as sobriety/safety checkpoints, special operations and public relations events.
The 12 week reserve police officer academy is scheduled to begin July 11, 2017. Training sessions typically take place three nights a week and on some Saturdays.
