Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal honored five personnel with the Bossier City Police and Fire Departments for their years of dedicated service with our nation's armed forces.
They were among more than 400 military veterans to receive the State of Louisiana's Veterans Honor Medal from Governor Jindal during a ceremony Thursday at Ringgold High School.
Those who received the medal are:
- BCFD Fire Chief Sammy Halphen, veteran of the United States Air Force
- BCFD Fire Prevention Assistant Chief Jimmy Phillips, veteran of the United States Air Force
- BCPD Lt. Larry Stockton, veteran of the United States Marine Corps and United States Army Reserve
- BCPD Lt. Steve Becker, veteran of the United States Air Force and United States Army
- BCPD Officer Keith Hardin, veteran of the Louisiana Army National Guard
Each recipient, with the exception of Officer Hardin, was present to accept their medal at Thursday's ceremony. Officer Hardin's mother, Maria Primeaux, a Bossier City Police Department employee herself, accepted his medal on his behalf.
The Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal was created by Act 695 of the 2008 Louisiana Legislature to recognize and honor all Louisiana veterans.
