Bossier City Fire Chief Sammy Halphen announced today the Bossier City Fire Department will participate in the 2010 Fire/EMS Safety, Health and Survival Week, also known as Safety Week, during the week of June 20-26. Safety Week is sponsored annually by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).
The goal of this event is to improve firefighter safety and health and subsequently provide firefighters with a better chance of survival in emergencies and over the course of their careers. The Bossier City Fire Department is one of many departments across the United States and Canada that will take part in Safety Week.
"We are looking forward to participating in Safety Week," said Sammy Halphen, Fire Chief. "The Bossier City Fire Department already addresses health and safety issues for its personnel on a year round basis through training, wellness programs and regular fitness assessments. We are one of a few fire departments that exceed safety and health recommendations established jointly by the IAFC and IAFF. We remain proactive in that effort and Safety Week allows us to reinforce that ongoing regiment."
During Safety Week, BCFD personnel will be encouraged to review safety procedures and take part in daily exercise. Regular fitness assessments of personnel will also be conducted.
