POSITION TITLE: Industrial Waste Pretreatment Inspector (Environmental Affairs Division)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Under the direct guidance of the Superintendent of Industrial Waste Pretreatment, this individual must be able to inspect, monitor, and conduct sampling events at various industrial and commercial sites; prepares and manages accurate records and correspondence, including writing, updating and maintaining industrial wastewater discharge permits. Prepares reports and maintains documentation, including preparing quarterly and annual reports for review by federal and state environmental protection agencies. Maintains field equipment and vehicles for daily use; clean industrial waste sampling equipment and maintains such equipment in proper operating condition; calibrates sampling equipment and field test equipment for proper usage and keeps detailed records on each piece. Performs all work assignments in accordance with appropriate safety rules, regulations and emergency procedures. Responds to emergency situations involving chemical and industrial waste spills and illegal discharges and coordinates actions to remedy the situation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Five (5) years experience in the water/wastewater pollution control field. Needs to possess Skills in technical report writing and the use of personal computers and word processing software. Thorough knowledge of proper sample collection, preservation, and chain of custody procedures. Some knowledge and understanding of the "Clean Water Act" and "Code of Federal Regulations" as it relates to all aspects of industrial waste field.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: This position requires the use of a vehicle while conducting City business. Individual must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license. Must hold or be able to qualify for such environmental licenses or certificates as may be required by federal, state or city government.
