UPDATE: This water boil advisory was lifted today, November 6, 2014.

(Original news release issued October 30, 2014)

A water boil advisory has been issued for residents in the 4200 of Niles Street after a water line connected to a fire hydrant broke this afternoon at the corner of Niles and Alison Avenue.

The boil advisory is required by the state since water service on that street has been turned off while crews work to make repairs. Those repairs are anticipated to be complete in about 4 to 5 hours at which time water service will resume.

The advisory is a precautionary measure and recommends those in the affected area voluntarily boil their water for at least one minute before consuming it. The advisory pertains only to water used for consumption. Again the advisory is only a precautionary measure. This is a boil advisory, not a boil order.

Per state regulations whenever a water boil advisory is issued it must be made public by advising local news media. The city will notify the news media when the advisory is lifted.
