Animal Officer Training

Animal Officer training includes:

  • Courses in communications, animal law, animals and public safety of the citizen as well as the companion animal
  • On the job experience
  • Instruction in the animal control, departments policies and rules

Many Animal Control Officers have previous work experience in law enforcement and or animal handling and behavior.

Bossier City Animal Control Officers receive training in whole or part from:

  • Louisiana Animal Care and Control Association (LACCA)
  • National Animal Care and Control Association (NACA)
  • Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine (LSBVM)
  • Maddie's Fund
  • Best Friends Animal Society


Advanced Training

Advanced training may cover:

  • Animal first aid and rescue
  • Animal handling
  • Breed identification
  • Human relations (working with people)
  • Legal aspect of animal control
  • Shelter management
  • Stress management
  • Use of chemicals in animal capture
  • Many other topics
